Employee Profile: Romain Pawlowski

Name: Romain Pawlowski  Position: Application & Service Engineer Number of years in the company: 2

1) What was your childhood like?

I grew up in the South of France; my parents were both teachers. They always pushed my sister and me to be curious and to learn.

2) Who was a hero to you growing up? Why?

I didn’t have a hero per se, but I liked to watch MacGyver on television. I liked how he got out of any situation without having much to use.

3) What are your hobbies?

I like DIY projects and mechanics in general. If I don’t know how to do something, I’ll try to learn how to get it done.

4) How did you get into metrology? Did you go to school for it?

I went to mechanical engineering school. During this training, I was on a sandwich course in the SYMETRIE company, which manufactures hexapods (precision positioning or movement machines). Little by little, I found myself in charge of the controllers for these machines, and also carrying out services for customers using Laser Trackers. My first Laser Tracker was an API Tracker 3 in 2006.

5) How did you come to be at API?

API was looking to increase its service offerings for training and assistance activity for its customers in France. And they needed an engineer who was already operational, but also able to carry out demonstrations of the equipment for commercial sales. The profile they were looking for corresponded to mine. I already knew API’s Rémi Attal and Grégory Levo, so it was a natural fit.

6) What are your roles and responsibilities at API?

Within the API France team, I am in charge of the development of service activity for the Radian Laser Tracker and also with the XD Laser Interferometer. I provide training and support to our customers.

7) What sets API apart from other metrology companies in your mind?

For me, it is our presence in the field that differentiates us, with a real contribution towards the needs of the customer, and the real assistance we provide them. We don’t just have metrology equipment, we have metrologists.

8) What API product or service are you most excited to tell people about?

It’s my sentimental side that will speak as the Laser Tracker is one of my first measuring instruments. The one I prefer is the Radian Pro Laser Tracker, which provides first-rate measurement accuracy while being easily transportable.

9) What about API’s future excites you?

The continued development of our service business is a challenge that I am proud to be part of.

10) What does “Nothing Beyond Measure” mean to you?

To me, it means we are able to solve even the most difficult measurement problems for our customers with our equipment and expertise.
